The Sunyani Traditional Council is in deep mourning following the passing of their beloved paramount Chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, who transitioned on the 30th of July 2022. The one-week celebration to honor his memory commenced on the 5th of October, with the climax taking place today, the 6th of October, in a remarkable display of tradition and unity.
On Wednesday, the 4th of October, the region bore witness to the awe-inspiring spectacle of powerful fetish priests from Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo, who showcased their various miracles to pave the way for the upcoming customs and traditions. This was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the area.Thursday marked a significant day in the mourning process, as numerous subchiefs from across the Sunyani Traditional Council area came together to offer their condolences to NANA Kwaku Sarbeng, the Akwamuhene of the Sunyani Traditional Council, who also serves as the acting president of the council. He was joined by the revered Queenmother, Nana Akosua Asor Dua Sika Brayie II, in receiving these heartfelt condolences.
Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, born on the 31st of May 1946 to the Boahen Korkor Asennie royal family in Sunyani, was a distinguished Chief whose legacy will be remembered for generations. His mother, Maame Afoofie, later ascended to become the Queenmother of the Sunyani Traditional Council with the stool name Nana Afia Yeboaa. Nana Bosoma's father, Mr. Martin Daniel Kwakye, was the headmaster of the High Street Government School, now Twene Amanfo Senior High School in Sunyani.
His educational journey led him from High Street Government School to Sunyani Secondary School, and he continued his studies at the University of Cape Coast, specializing in teaching. Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II dedicated his life to education, teaching at Berekum Training College, Dormaa Secondary School, and Sunyani Secondary School, where he imparted knowledge in mathematics and social studies.
Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II was enstooled on the 17th of March 1980 and succeeded Nana Kwaku Yeboah as the paramount Chief. During his reign, he played a pivotal role in the establishment of key institutions such as the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Regional Hospital, and the renowned Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri Market, which bustles with activity every Wednesday. His dedication to serving his people was unwavering, leaving an indelible mark on the region.
The passing of Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II has been felt deeply by the Sunyani people, who consider it a profound loss. Dignitaries from various quarters have paid their respects during the one-week observation. Notable attendees included representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Chairman Asiedu Nketia and Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, as well as executives from the Bono and Ahafo regions.
Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah, along with the Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, graced the occasion with their presence.
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and Municipal Chief Executives from both Sunyani West and East as well as their Members of parliaments also shared their condolences.
Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II will be remembered as a visionary leader who left an enduring legacy of progress and unity in the Sunyani Traditional Council. His memory will continue to inspire generations to come.
