Desist from mounting unnecessary pressure on graduates – Bishop Afrifa admonishes Parents.

Speaking at the 22nd graduation ceremony at the Catholic University-Ghana, Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Most Rev. Joseph KwakuAfirifaAgyekum advised parents not to put pressure on  their wards after they have  graduated from school.

‘’A little caution to my dear parents, kindly be patient with your wards, with your children and never mount unnecessary pressure on them’’ he said.

Seeking a job after university can become a problem for many especially as the newly statistics say about Ghana’s unemployment rate which is 3.9% (tradingeconomics.com).

‘Continue to support them until they secure jobs and encourage them   because sometimes they can be confused, due of lack of employment opportunities in Ghana’, Bishop Afrifa continued.

Economic activities can sometimes create catastrophic challenge for graduates after school, and even polarized family relationships.

‘If parents are capable, they can support their wards  with seed money to begin  something real, which can push them into the society and make them become proud’ he added.

The grief and frustrations one faces is really hard if one is considered among the survey of ‘unemployment rate’. Loans taken from banks, family investment in you, all those need to be paid back after one secures a job.  To add,  if one is unlucky and cannot thrive on other skills too, then woe is his or her destiny.

The country’s unemployment rate averaged 5.63 percent from 1991 until 2022, hitting high of 10.5 percent in 2000 and bunch low of 2.2 percent in 2013.

The ceremony took place at the forecourt of the Catholic University,  where parents, friends and the entire catholic academic community gathered and  celebrated the hard work of the outgoing students; who are graduating with various university degree certificates.

The graduates also marked a historical moment for the Catholic University; they are the first batch to get the university’s own certificate, since the school gained a Presidential charter on August 3, 2023.

Some 1,312 freshers  also matriculated to the university community to pursue various academic degrees.
