WISDOM 101.1 FM OFFICIALLY INAUGURATED AT CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF GHANA

The Catholic University of Ghana (CUG) witnessed a historic moment on October 25, 2024, with the inauguration of its campus radio station, Wisdom 101.1 FM. The colorful ceremony was graced by dignitaries, staff, and students, marking a significant milestone in the university's journey toward advancing communication and education.

The Vice-Chancellor of CUG, Professor Daniels Kwabena Obeng Ofori, led the list of esteemed guests, including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Father Peter Nkrumah Amponsah; Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Kaba; and Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies, Rev. Father Owoahene Acheampong. The event also had the active participation of the university's teaching and non-teaching staff, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President, Mr. Lawrence Amoahmm, and the entire student body.

The ceremony began with an opening prayer led by the University Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Dr. Stephen Ebo Annan, who invoked God’s blessings on the workers of Wisdom FM. He prayed for enlightenment and inspiration for the station’s team to use technology responsibly to communicate truth, foster love, uphold justice, and provide enjoyment. Rev. Fr. Annan also expressed gratitude to benefactors, particularly MSGR Raphael Nwosu and his family, whose generous contributions made the station a reality. He called on God’s guidance for those who will operate the facility and for listeners to be drawn closer to the Lord through its broadcasts.

The guest Bishop from Koforidua and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, encouraged workers to promote peace and harmony, reflecting the teachings of Christ. He sanctified the premises with holy water, symbolizing the station’s mission to be a beacon of truth and service.

The commissioning of Wisdom FM was performed by the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Episcopal Chairman of the University, Most Rev. Matthew Akwasi Gyamfi. In his address, Rev. Gyamfi urged the station’s team to uphold ethical standards and use the platform to contribute meaningfully to the progress of humanity. He emphasized the station’s potential to amplify the Catholic University’s commitment to education, truth, and societal development.

Following the commissioning, the station aired its first interview conducted by the Acting General Manager, Mr. Adam Siaka. The inaugural guest was Mrs. Christiana Kumah, Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, who shared insights into the transformative role of radio in modern communication.

The inauguration of Wisdom 101.1 FM underscores the Catholic University’s dedication to leveraging communication as a tool for education, evangelization, and community building. The station is poised to serve as a vital medium for intellectual discourse, spiritual growth, and entertainment within and beyond the university community.

With this monumental step, CUG continues to solidify its position as a leader in holistic education, fostering a culture of excellence, faith, and service.
